Honouring Excellence: The R.G. Drysdale Award
At the 15th Canadian Masonry Symposium, we were proud to present the R.G. Drysdale Award, recognizing the best paper focused on the design, behavior, or analysis of masonry structures. This award celebrates exceptional research that advances the understanding and application of masonry in structural engineering.
This year, 17 papers were nominated, and 13 were selected as finalists following a rigorous review process. The award highlights not only technical excellence but also the lasting impact of the work on the masonry community.
The award is named in honour of Dr. Robert G. Drysdale, Professor Emeritus at McMaster University, who retired in 2005 after 38 years of influential teaching and research in masonry and building science. Dr. Drysdale was the first to hold the Martini, Mascarin and George Chair in Masonry Design, endowed by the Ontario Masonry Contractors Association. His contributions to masonry codes and standards—both nationally and internationally—have shaped the field for decades.
We extend our congratulations to the award recipient and all finalists for their outstanding work and dedication to advancing masonry research.
