ABSTRACT

This paper reviews the impact of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Energy efficiency standard on new, non-residential, masonry buildings. Standard 90.1 represents an advance in the comprehensiveness of energy standards. For example, the standard included a separate set of compliance criteria for buildings which have thermal mass, has long been recognized, it has traditionally been difficult to quantify for the purposes of energy code compliance.
