ABSTRACT
The most recent restoration work on the stone masonry walls of the Victoria Memorial Museum in Ottawa started in 1989 with a detailed condition smvey. After a lengthy delay due to lack of funding, the recommended repairs could finally be carried out between 1995 and 1997. The paper reviews firstly, the methodology used to document the condition of the walls, and secondly, it summarizes the findings ahd describes the recommended restoration philosophy. The paper provides details of the repair methods used and the costs associated with this major masonry restoration project. Finally, the experiences of the consultants and contractors with year-round masonry construction work is discussed.
